Geodetic Earth ScientistSt Louis, MOGrade: B4Open: 2021-03-08, Close: 2021-03-20Job Posting: 20210154Job SummaryASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION: Geodetic Earth Scientists analyze the Earth's gravity and magnetic fields, geophysical structure, material properties, and dynamics for geospatial intelligence and DoD applications. They define and maintain the World Geodetic System (WGS), perform datum transformations between WGS 84 and local datums, and develop spatial and temporal models defining Earth systems. They provide in-depth technical expertise on geodetic and geophysical issues to customers and represent NGA in community forums establishing doctrine and policy.Additional Job InformationADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Geomatics Production Workflow Lead is responsible for integrating and synchronizing all Geomatics production operations across a six-Division Office, coordinating with production managers to articulate program plans in support of production requirements. Supports critical geodetic modernization efforts through the development of production milestones, decision points, & intended end states ensuring content & all related updates therein are accessible by customers on all applicable security domains. Utilizes problem solving techniques, teamwork building strategies, process control, and continuous improvement tools to meet or exceed the production workflow requirements. This position requires the ability to work in a fast paced environment, & able to handle highly complex, sensitive, & at times ambiguous challenges, normally under constrained deliverable timelines. The incumbent must be comfortable reporting, & making recommendations to Senior Leadership within / outside NGA. The position is part of the Front Office staff working closely with all leadership across six Divisions, Office Director & Deputy Director. Through the aforementioned areas of responsibilities the Geomatics Production Workflow Lead directly supports the D/NGA's Mission Imperative #1 - Assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing and targeting (A-PNTt). * Assess / facilitate making NGA GEOINT content discoverable and accessible * Support the definition / development of performance metrics, & assist with metrics analysis * Works independently & within teams, provides leadership, advice, guidance, direction, & content management advancing data / product types, missions & functions to include geospatial requirements process & production * Manages Office production requirements, while integrating / synchronizing Division production planning techniques & procedures * Synchronizes business strategies to advance Office production in support of planning, policies, & supporting documents addressing governance, strategies & information management, requirements & production planning techniques / procedures, to include establishing / employing best practices & metrics * Assists with analysis, evaluation, & assessment leading to development of recommendations for system & process improvements, optimization, development, & operations sustainment efforts for Office operations, systems, software, & processes * Assists with strategic planning, policy & business analysis, & develops process improvement recommendations to facilitate quality improvement efforts * Presents processed data, visualizations, & scientific analysis to Office leadership, analysts, & Lines of Business Managers in support of production management This position is eligible for an INCENTIVE: The selected candidates may be offered an incentive as part of the offer of employment, based on budget availability. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Geodesy, Mathematics, Physical Science, or a related discipline that includes at least 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework in any combination of Astronomy, Cartography, Computer Science, Engineering Science, Geodesy, Geology, Geomatics, Geophysics, Mathematics, Meteorology, Orbital Mechanics, Photogrammetry, Physical Science, Physics, Remote Sensing, or Surveying. Coursework must include differential and integral calculus. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A, plus experience in conducting work related to Civil Engineering, Geodesy, Geophysics, Geotechnical Analysis, Geodetic Surveying, or a related field that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Distinguish principal colors and shades/hues of principal colors; Near visual acuity of 20/40 or better with or without corrective lenses; Far visual acuity of 20/60 or better binocular with or without corrective lensesHighly Desired QualificationsQUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1. Experience performing program oversight; anchor team activities in well-defined and traceable requirements; develop plans, schedules, risk and performance; track actions, identify milestones, construct and maintain roadmaps, and report progress; previous lead integration activities and matrix teams; experience and willingness to brief groups. 2. Demonstrated experience working in multidisciplinary teams to develop solutions to problems and deliver those solutions. 3. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technology or software. 4. Demonstrated experience with problem identification, analysis, resolution and adaptation to changing requirements and timelines.Additional Job RequirementsYou must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information.
